Message from the IPTI President - Now Is the Time for Opportunity!

Solomon, in all his wisdom, once said, “Everything has a time.” For IPTI, today is the time for opportunity. For the past few years, IPTI has planted and cultivated various relationships and venues within each of its Divisions as a means of servicing and attracting new members. It is these past relationships that now position IPTI with even greater opportunities. Although today’s higher prices and hectic schedules do fuel the organization’s source of opportunities, the fact remains that most of them have roots dating prior to present day.

Currently, each of the IPTI Division’s hosts and/or partners key industry events, including the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), International Pipeline Conference (IPC), and The OMAE annual conference. The list continues to grow as a result of this year’s second annual International Offshore Pipeline Forum (IOPF) and IPTI’s newly formed relationships with Quest Offshore, Marine Construction Europe (MCE, recently renamed Deepwater Europe), and Deep Gulf. Each of these events, along with several other unmentioned ones, provides opportunities for technical and organization programming committees and a platform to present cutting edge technical papers within the industry.

More significantly, the list of opportunities does not end here. This year IPTI witnessed the first annual India Pipeline Conference, continued growth at the BMEA Awards, on-going preparation for OMAE 2010 in China, and growth in IPTI’s Continuing Education Program. Poised for eventual inclusion are potential events in South America, Mexico, and the Middle East, just to name a few.

With rapid growth, though, comes a tremendous need for new and existing members to “step up” in leadership and presenter roles. Ultimately, these venues provide excellent opportunities for career growth, networking, and recognition. Therefore, anyone who feels that he/she has a contribution to make in these areas should contact the IPTI office or an active member of ASME programming. Bottom line, IPTI involvement brings both professional and personal reward. IPTI needs YOU; the time for opportunity is NOW!
