Message
from the IPTI President
Now
Is the Time for Opportunity!
Solomon, in all his wisdom, once said, “Everything has a time.” For IPTI, today is the time for opportunity. For the past few years, IPTI has planted and cultivated various relationships and venues within each of its Divisions as a means of servicing and attracting new members. It is these past relationships that now position IPTI with even greater opportunities. Although today’s higher prices and hectic schedules do fuel the organization’s source of opportunities, the fact remains that most of them have roots dating prior to present day. more > |

Division Updates
Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OOAE)
With about 4500 members worldwide in the Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OOAE) Division of ASME, we are obligated to provide our members with the best technical information, opportunities and services within the areas of ocean, offshore and arctic engineering. Through the years, OOAE has focused not only on the yearly OMAE conference but also on promoting OOAE to young engineers, providing opportunities to students and working more internationally by co-sponsoring locally organized symposia. more >
Pipeline Systems Divison (PSD)
Dear Pipeline Colleague,
Pipelines fulfill a very important role in our society and often the importance of these systems is not appreciated in our daily activities. Looking around, pipelines are indirectly present in fuel for cars, diesel for buses, kerosene for aviation, gas for cooking, electricity for houses, and the supply of raw materials for industry and manufacturing. It is the safest way to transport oil products.

Petroleum Division (PD)
As we wrap up another fiscal year, I can
say that the Petroleum Division is still “Turning
to the right, making hole and pressure is
building”. Several years ago the Petroleum
Division along with two other ASME Divisions
joined to form the International Petroleum
Technology Institute (IPTI) of ASME. Working
under the umbrella of the (IPTI) has been
great since this has kept us “high
and dry above the choppy waters” of
organizational administrative matters.

Early
Career Engineer
The Early Career Engineer program was developed in 2008 and is off to a
great start.
The goal of this program is to keep young engineers involved with each
other, the industry and ASME.
As with most ASME efforts this program is led by committee. We are lucky
enough to have
YE committee members from ConocoPhillips,
Chevron, FMC, Subsea 7, Dril-Quip, Dannenbaum
Engineering and Ventech Engineers International.
With guidance from Amrah Sanchez of the ASME staff this committee has
planned
and promoted several successful events both networking and educational.

New!
Continuing Education Programs
ASME-IPTI is excited to announce a new service to its members and industry
colleagues….continuing education programs. We are developing a portfolio
of engineering courses and workshops, primarily technical and some non-technical
in nature. These courses are designed to serve the petroleum and energy-related
industries. Current course content ranges from technical workshops on subsea
pipeline design, FPSO technologies, choosing floating production systems
from a hydrodynamic viewpoint, to engineering ethics courses.
The courses are individually designed to appeal to a wide target audience
from engineers with one to five years of experience, to more seasoned engineers
who have much more technical expertise.
